Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp are highly sought‑after Caridina shrimp known for their bold, high‑contrast patterning and distinctive tiger‑style markings. With strong black bands, white highlights and unique pattern variations from shrimp to shrimp, Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp make an eye‑catching centrepiece in a dedicated shrimp display.
As with many higher‑grade Caridina, Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp do best in soft, slightly acidic water with very stable parameters. In a mature, well‑maintained shrimp tank, they will graze constantly on biofilm and algae, display natural behaviour and may breed, rewarding you with a growing colony of beautifully patterned shrimp.
Please note: We do not send shrimps to WA, TAS or NT.

Key Features of Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp

  • Premium Caridina shrimp variety
Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp are selectively bred Caridina with strong tiger‑style markings and high contrast between black and white areas.
  • Unique pattern on each shrimp
No two Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp are exactly the same – each shrimp has its own individual pattern, making them perfect for collectors and dedicated shrimp keepers.
  • Ideal for shrimp‑only tanks
Because of their sensitivity and value, Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp are best kept in species‑only or shrimp‑focused aquariums where water parameters can be tailored to their needs.
  • Great choice for experienced keepers
These shrimp are recommended for hobbyists who are already comfortable keeping Caridina and maintaining stable, soft water conditions.

Recommended Water Parameters (Guide Only)

Exact parameters can vary depending on your line and remineraliser, but as a general guide for Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp:
  • Temperature: around 20–24°C
  • pH: typically 5.8–6.8 (soft, slightly acidic water)
  • GH/KH: low to moderate, using appropriate shrimp salts
  • Ammonia & Nitrite: 0 ppm
  • Nitrate: kept low with regular water changes
Many keepers use active shrimp soil and remineralised RO water to provide the stable, soft conditions Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp prefer.

Tank Setup for Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp

To set up a suitable environment for Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp:
  • Start with a mature, fully cycled aquarium – avoid adding them to new, unstable tanks.
  • Use a gentle filter such as a sponge filter or a filter with a shrimp‑safe pre‑filter on the intake.
  • Add plenty of plants, mosses, driftwood and hardscape to create hiding spots and surfaces for biofilm.
  • Keep lighting moderate and encourage natural biofilm growth – this is an important food source for Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp.
A nano or small aquarium can work well as long as stocking is sensible and water quality is kept very stable.

Feeding Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp

Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp are omnivores and will graze all day on biofilm, algae and detritus. Supplement their natural grazing with:
  • High‑quality shrimp pellets or granules
  • Shrimp‑specific foods and mineral blocks
  • Occasional vegetable or leaf‑based foods (e.g. blanched spinach, shrimp leaf products)
  • Occasional protein‑rich shrimp treats
Feed sparingly and remove uneaten food after a few hours to keep water quality high. Stable, clean water is critical for Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp health and breeding.

Tank Mates and Compatibility

For the best results, Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp are usually kept:
  • In shrimp‑only tanks or with other carefully chosen Caridina lines (avoiding unwanted hybridisation if you’re keeping specific patterns)
  • With small, shrimp‑safe snails as clean‑up crew
  • Without predatory or boisterous fish that may stress or eat shrimp
Most keepers prefer a dedicated Black Fancy Tiger Shrimp tank to protect the line, maximise survival of babies and make it easier to manage parameters.
